Bulk Wood Chip Services for Spring Landscaping
Arborist wood chips (those produced by licensed arborists) are superb for creating and maintaining gorgeous gardens and landscapes. An even distribution of wood chips around trees and shrubs adds aesthetic appeal to your lawn while keeping weeds to a minimum. 100% natural wood chips are better for the environment than other weed prevention methods.
Our wood chips come from:
Wood chips help stabilize the temperature of your soil, keeping it cooler in summer and warmer in winter, while enriching the soil as they decompose. A 4- to 6-inch thick bed of wood chips is ideal for helping the soil retain moisture--which is beneficial for all types of plants, particularly those just getting established in your landscaping.
Order our arborists wood chips in time for Arbor Day to encourage healthy tree growth. Wood chips can be used to enhance the soil around saplings, bushes, flower beds, and gardens.

Why wood chips are better for landscaping
A 1990 study of 15 organic materials commonly used for landscaping (including leaves, compost, grass clippings, bark mulch and wood chips) found that wood chips were exceptionally good at retaining moisture in the soil, moderating temperature and controlling weeds. Because wood chips combine tree bark, wood and leaves, they resist compaction. Wood chips also promote a richer biological diversity, which helps keep plants healthy while supplying nutrients to the soil.
Wood chips are vastly superior to any other landscaping material, and Russ Tree Service is the place to get them.
When is the best time to put down wood chips?
We recommend putting down wood chips in the fall, before the snow starts. A 2- to 4-inch deep layer will help the soil retain warmth over the winter and reduce the number of weeds that come up in the spring. Once the snow has melted, another layer of chips will encourage healthy spring growth.
