Kiln-Dried Firewood

Russ’s Tree Service provides high quality kiln-dried firewood for your fireplaces, wood burning stoves, and outdoor fire pits. Our kiln-dried pre-cut firewood burns complete and clean, reducing nasty odors and ash deposits. Other types of firewood can cause excessive smoke, pungent odors, and release unhealthy carcinogens into the air. Firewood that has not been properly selected and dried thoroughly can be extremely hazardous. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention) has released a caution to homeowners with fireplaces and wood burning stoves that smoke from improperly treated firewood can produce high levels of benzene, formaldehyde, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. To minimize this risk, it is important to get your firewood from trusted sources like Russ’s Tree Service. At Russ’s Tree Service, we carefully select our firewood ensuring it comes from tree species that produce wood with low carbon outputs and reduced odors. We then use our kiln-drying technology to properly dry and treat the wood. This eliminates stagnant moisture and insect larvae that may have built up inside.

How We Do It

Our firewood is heated to more than 165 degrees in a kiln oven in order to lower the wood’s internal moisture content. This provides hotter, cleaner, and more consistent burning firewood. Kiln-dried firewood also enables you start your fires more easily, requiring less need for kindling or other fire-starting materials like newspaper or combustible fluids. Statistics show that most fire starting accidents occur as a result of using excessive amounts of combustible fluids like lighter fluid or kerosene. You will notice a significant difference between our kiln-dried wood and that of our competitors or that pile of old wood you’ve been trying to burn through.
